10-Minute Pour Over Iced Coffee (Not Watered Down)

This 10-minute pour over iced coffee uses medium ground coffee brewed with hot water poured over ice cubes in a carafe, ensuring a rich flavor that isn’t diluted. The method carefully saturates the grounds and allows brewing over ice, resulting in a well-balanced iced coffee that avoids watering down. It makes about 2 1/2 cups, suitable for two servings, and allows control over strength by adjusting ice or water amounts.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ice cubes approximately 2 cups
  • ½ cup coffee beans medium ground
  • 16 ounces water 2 cups, 205°F, hot

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. If grinding your own coffee, grind the beans on a fine-to-medium grind, as you would for drip-brew. Begin heating the water to just under a boil, or 205°F.
  2. Place a large carafe (or vessel that will hold the coffee) on a kitchen scale, zero it out, and weigh out the ice cubes. Place a strainer lined with a coffee filter on top (or the method you will be using to hold the coffee grounds). Add the ground coffee to the filter.
  3. Pour the hot water in a circular motion over the grounds from the center outward, just until the coffee is wet, then stop. Allow it to sit for about 30 seconds; it will likely bubble up and rise. Then, continue pouring water in a circular motion over the grounds until they are coated. Once the water reaches close to the top of the filter, stop pouring and give it time to drip through. Continue this process until 16 ounces of water have been poured through.
  4. Prepare 2 glasses with fresh ice cubes. Pour the brewed coffee over the ice and serve as desired with creamer or flavorings. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The recipe yields about 2 1/2 cups, enough for two servings over ice.
  • To reduce strength, add more ice during brewing or dilute with additional water before serving.
  • Freshly ground medium-coarse coffee produces the best extraction for this method.
  • Pour hot water steadily in a circular motion over the grounds to ensure even saturation and bloom.
