15-Minute Sauteed Spicy Green Beans with Chili Garlic Sauce
Add some heat to your meal with these spicy green beans! Sauteed on the stovetop in just 15 minutes in a spicy sauce made with garlic, ginger, chili paste, and soy sauce. Excellent as a side dish or even a vegetarian main served with rice.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
- ½ teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar honey or maple syrup work as substitutes
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch optional, but recommended
- 1 ½ Tablespoons vegetable oil or cooking oil of choice
- 16 ounces Green bean trimmed, fresh
- 2 cloves garlic finely chopped or sliced
- 2 teaspoons ginger grated, or use ginger paste, fresh
- 2 ½ teaspoons chili garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 fresno chili pepper sliced, optional for more heat
- sesame seeds for garnish, optional
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar/honey, and cornstarch until combined. Set aside.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat with the oil. Once shimmering, add green beans and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes.
- Add garlic, ginger, chili paste, and red pepper flakes, stirring to coat (add Fresno pepper slices, too, if using). Continue to cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the beans and stir to coat completely. Continue to cook the beans for an additional 3-4 minutes until sauce is thicker and green beans are tender. Serve with sesame seeds and/or rice as desired.
Notes
- Frozen Green Beans - they work, too! Reduce the cook time slightly as they will cook faster, especially if cut.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave until hot.
