Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened softened (2 sticks)
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks
  • 2 1/2 cups patriotic M&Ms divided

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  4. Slowly stir in flour, salt, and baking soda.
  5. Fold in chocolate chunks and 1 1/2 cups of M&Ms.
  6. Use a 1” cookie scoop or spoon to create 1-1.5” cookie balls and place them 2” apart on the baking sheet.
  7. Top cookie balls with M&MS.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the center is set and the edges start to brown.
  9. Sprinkle cookies with remaining M&Ms and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • To soften butter, but not melt it, microwave for 10 seconds and additional 5 seconds increments until soft (use a fork to test softness).
  • Feel free to use chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips instead of chocolate chunks. Double the amount for a bigger chocolate burst.
  • Cookie batter can be frozen in cookie balls and baked according to the directions without needing to thaw.
