AIP Classic BBQ Sauce

This AIP Classic BBQ Sauce combines maple syrup, pumpkin puree, coconut aminos, molasses, and balsamic vinegar with spices to create a thick, tangy, and subtly sweet sauce. It is cooked briefly to blend flavors and can be made ahead, stored for days, or frozen. The sauce is oil-based, preventing fat separation during storage.

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Avocado Oil is a good substitute
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan the stovetop over medium heat.
  2. Cook the ingredients while stirring until it’s boiling about 3-5 minutes. This is a thick sauce so once it’s boiling, remove it from the heat otherwise you’re going to get sprayed with hot BBQ sauce.
  3. Let cool slightly and either use immediately or put in a resealable container.

Notes

  • Make the sauce a day ahead for better flavor meld, and use within 3-5 days when refrigerated.
  • The sauce freezes well for longer storage.
  • Honey can be used instead of maple syrup if preferred.
  • Use liquid oils like olive or avocado oil to prevent fat separation when chilled.
  • Ensure to use blackstrap molasses as it fits the AIP guidelines.
