How To Make Banana Chips on Stovetop
- Transfer the chips into a mixing bowl and season with salt and any desired seasonings.
- Heat oil in a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry the bananas in batches till they are golden on one side then turn them over and fry the other side (about 5 minutes in total). Avoid overcrowding the pan. Note that the second side cooks much quicker than the first side.
- Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon, transfer the chips to a plate lined with kitchen paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Continue till all are done, and then let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- If you use a no-calorie cooking spray, there are 0 Blue Plan SmartPoints in a serving.
- Use a mandoline or sharp knife to slice the banana chips.
- Cut the chips to the same width so that they cook at the same rate.
- Feel free to slice chips lengthwise if you prefer.
- Let them cool before serving as they crisp up more when as they cool.
- Use the oils you have. If not following the Whole30 plan, you can fry the banana using rapeseed oil, peanut oil, or sunflower seed oil.
- It is easy for these to go from cooked to burnt, so watch them very carefully towards the end of their cooking time.
- You might need to reduce the heat on the oil after turning the chips, as the second side cooks much quicker than the first.
