Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk warmed (90°)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup oil
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cooking spray
Egg Wash
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Add the warm milk, sugar and yeast to a large bowl (or the stand mixer). Allow to proof for 2 minutes.
  2. Beat the eggs and oil into the milk, then gradually add flour and salt until a nice dough forms. It may be a bit sticky.
  3. If using a stand mixer, using a kneading hook, knead the dough for about 10 minutes (about 15 to 20 minutes by hand) until a nice dough ball forms. If the dough is too sticky as it is kneading, gradually add a little flour at a time until no longer sticking to the sides of the bowl.
  4. Remove the dough from the bowl and form a ball. Place back in the bowl and cover with a towel. Place in a warm spot and allow to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch the dough down. Turn the dough onto a surface and divide into 8 equal parts (12 if you want smaller rolls).
  6. Spray a small pan that will fit inside your air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  7. Place the dough balls evenly spaced in the pan.
  8. Cover and allow to double in size for about 30 minutes.
  9. Beat the egg and water together and gently brush over the rolls.
  10. Place in the air fryer and set for 350° for 3 minutes. Gently remove and cover tightly with tinfoil.
  11. Continue air frying at 350° for 15 minutes. Immediately run a knife around the edge of the pan and gently tip the rolls a little so you can check the bottom of the rolls. If the rolls are cooked through on the bottom, they are done. If not, cover and continue air frying for another 3 to 5 minutes. Repeat until the rolls are cooked through.
  12. Remove and serve.

Notes

  • Add the Flour Slowly. You may not need as much flour as the recipe calls for. Humidity and altitude can play a part in the amount of flour you need.
  • Be Watchful During Cooking. Every air fryer cooks a little differently. You will cook uncovered for the first 3 minutes just to lightly brown the rolls. Then gently cover with tin foil, making sure you don’t deflate the rolls. This will ensure the inside of the rolls bakes and the outside doesn’t overbrown.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer. This ensures even cooking and helps your rolls achieve a nice crust on the outside.
  • Use Fresh Yeast. Make sure to store the yeast in a cool, dry place to ensure it remains alive and active.
  • Proofing the Dough. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place such as a cool oven or the microwave.
  • Shaping the Rolls. To ensure even cooking, keep the rolls approximately the same size.
