Ingredients

  • 2 salmon filets 6-8 ounces each
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • salt
  • black pepper to taste
  • Cooking Spray (Optional)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  2. Mix the Dry Rub: In a small bowl, whisk together onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare the Salmon: Rinse the fresh salmon filets and then pat them dry with paper towels. Sprinkle all sides with the prepared dry rub.
  4. Mix the Sauce: In a saucepan or small skillet over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Mix the ingredients until they are fully combined. This will be your honey garlic sauce.
  5. Air Fry the Salmon: Place the seasoned salmon filets skin side down in your preheated air fryer basket and cook them until the thickest part of the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). This typically takes about 10-12 minutes, but I recommend using the temperature as the primary indicator of doneness.
  6. Baste the Salmon: Open the air fryer basket and brush or pour the honey garlic glaze evenly over the flaky salmon filets. Continue to air fry for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Serve: Using tongs or a spatula carefully remove your cooked air fryer honey garlic salmon from the air fryer.
  8. Garnish the top of the salmon filets with parsley, lemon slices, green onions, or sesame seeds, and serve them on a plate with your choice of side, such as rice, green beans, asparagus, broccoli, or any favorite side dish.

Notes

  • Use a thermometer: The best way to see if your salmon is cooked properly is to use a thermometer.
  • Marinate the salmon: Divide the sauce and use half of it as a honey garlic salmon marinade to infuse the fish with even more flavor before it cooks.
  • Don’t skip preheating: To cook your food in the air fryer to perfection every time, preheat it just like you would with your oven.
  • Thickness of salmon: I recommend using filets with a thickness of around 1 inch or more. Adjust the cooking time slightly for thicker or thinner filets.
  • Prep the air fryer basket: Place the marinated salmon in a single layer in an air fryer basket that has been brushed with a little oil or sprayed with cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  • Storing: Store leftover honey garlic salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. To freeze, store in a freezer-safe container and keep for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating it.
