Ingredients

  • 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 ½ cups freshly shredded mixed cheese
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 340 degrees F. Grease a large enough baking dish that will fit in your air fryer. This recipe needs a 20 30-ounce dish (¾ to 1 liter). Round or square doesn't matter; use whatever fits best in your air fryer.
  2. Combine macaroni, milk, heavy cream, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cajun seasoning, mustard, and 1 cup of cheese in a large bowl. Add salt and pepper if desired. Pour the mixture into the baking dish. Put the dish in the air fryer basket and air fry at 340 degrees F for 10 minutes.
  3. When the timer goes off, add the remaining cheese. Stir and air fry for another 9-10 minutes.
  4. Open the air fryer and carefully stir the mac and cheese. Allow to cool down for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  5. Garnish with parsley and enjoy.

Notes

  • This recipe is for two servings. If you have an extra large air fryer, you might be able to double it, but the pasta would probably take a little longer to cook.
  • Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that can prevent it from melting smoothly. For the creamiest, gooiest results, shred your own cheese or buy pre-shredded cheese that doesn't have added caking agents.
  • If you're sensitive to spice, feel free to reduce or omit the cayenne pepper. If you like things extra zesty, bump up the Cajun seasoning or add a dash of hot sauce. Play around and find your perfect flavor combo.
  • You can use other short, sturdy pasta shapes like shells. Just keep in mind that the cooking time may need to be adjusted slightly depending on the size and thickness of the pasta.
  • This recipe is a great base for all sorts of delicious add-ins. Try stirring in some cooked bacon bits, diced ham, or sautéed vegetables like onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms. Add a sprinkle of breadcrumbs or crushed crackers on top for extra crunch.
