Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter salted
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4-5 cups half and half
- 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups Parmesan Cheese grated
Instructions
- In a skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- Add the flour and increase the heat to medium. Whisk together and let cook for 2 minutes, until the flour turns a light golden color.
- Slowly pour in the half and half, whisking to combine. Add in the garlic powder and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and whisk constantly while it heats. Just as it comes to a simmer, add in 1 1/2 cups of grated parmesan cheese and stir to melt.
- The sauce will thicken as it continues to simmer and as it stands, so you can add extra half and half or pasta water if you want a thinner sauce, or add extra parmesan cheese if you would like it thicker.
- Serve the Alfredo sauce as a dipping sauce, use it as a pizza sauce, or pour it over pasta with freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh parsley to garnish (optional).
