Amish Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large bowl or stand mixer combine granulated sugar, powdered sugar, butter and oil until well combined.
  3. Add eggs and beat again until just combined.
  4. Next, add baking soda, cream of tartar and vanilla, beat until just combined.
  5. Add in flour one cup at a time, mixing between each addition.
  6. Drop by small teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake until lightly browned, 8-10 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Notes

  • Allow cookies to fully cool before transferring to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for 5-7 days, though I doubt they'll last that long in the house! You can also freeze these cookies for more long term storage. Freeze on a baking sheet and then transfer to a freezer bag or airtight container. Freeze for up to 3 months and allow to thaw before consuming.
