Ingredients

  • 1 angel food cake or cake mix plus baking ingredients
  • 1 3.4- ounce instant cheesecake pudding or vanilla pudding
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tub ( 8 ounce) Cool Whip divided
  • 2 ½ cups fresh strawberries chopped into small pieces
  • 1 ½ cups fresh blueberries
  • whole berries strawberries, blueberries and raspberries for garnish

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Prep the angel food cake. If making homemade bake them in 8-inch pans to layer. If using store-bought, cut it into small bite-sized pieces or shape it into 1-inch layers by slicing it horizontally.
  2. In a large bowl add instant pudding mix and milk and beat until it starts to thicken with a hand mixer.
  3. Fold in half a tub of Cool Whip and set aside.
  4. To layer the trifle start with a layer of angel food cake. If necessary, trim the edges of the cake to fit your dish.
  5. Next add half of the pudding mix and layer smoothly (about 1 ½ cups) followed by the chopped strawberries.
  6. Add the second cake layer, the rest of the pudding, and then the blueberries.
  7. Finally top with the final layer of Cool Whip and decorate the top with berries.
  8. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Prep all the elements for the layers before assembling the trifle.
  • Use a serrated knife when cutting angel food cake for smoother cuts.
  • Let prepared trifle sit covered in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. This gives the flavors a chance to meld.
  • Make sure your trifle layers are as level as possible and visible through the bowl. The sequence should be one cake, half of the pudding mixture (about 1 ½ cups), then the chopped strawberries. Then repeat with a second cake, the remaining pudding mixture, and blueberries. Last, top with the rest of the Cool Whip and decorate with fresh berries.
