- 5 Honeycrisp (or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced)
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice , freshly squeezed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour , sifted
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- ⅙ cup caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 pinch salt
- ½ cup cold butter , cut into small cubes
- 2 tablespoons butter , softened (for the mold)

- Square baking dish , 9-inch / 22 cm
- Stand mixer
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F (175°C).
- Butter a 9-inch (22 cm) square baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine the apples and lemon juice and place them at the bottom of the baking dish.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the flour, brown sugar, caster sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves and salt.
- Using the flat beater, pulse twice to combine all the ingredients.
- Add the butter, a few cubes at a time, turning the stand mixer on between each addition of butter or until the butter is completely incorporated and the mixture turns into a kind of coarse breadcrumbs.
- Crumble this mixture over the apples.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the surface is lightly browned.
- Serve hot with whipped cream.
