Apple Cider Doughnut Cake

Apple Cider Doughnut Cake transforms a yellow cake mix with apple cider, applesauce, and spices, baked in a bundt pan, then coated with a butter-brushed cinnamon sugar topping. Ingredients

Cake
  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 3 egg large
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

For The Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Use a baking release spray or grease and flour a bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl or with an electric mixer combine cake mix, apple cider, apple sauce, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Add brown sugar and vanilla and mix well. Pour cake batter into a greased bundt pan.
  4. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean (mine was done at 45 minutes).
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool on a cooling rack for 15 minutes.
  6. After 15 minutes, turn the bundt pan over onto a cooling rack or parchment paper. Allow the cake to cool completly before adding toppings.
For The Cinnamon Sugar Topping
  1. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  2. Brush butter over cake. Work quickly to sprinkle cinnamon and sugar topping on top and the sides of cake using your hands. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe works with 10- or 12-cup bundt pans; a 12-cup pan yields a smaller-looking cake before baking but not after.
  • Use a 15.25-ounce yellow cake mix for best results; smaller cake mix boxes may affect outcome.
  • Apply the cinnamon sugar coating by hand for better adherence to the cake surface.
