Ingredients

For the Filling:
  • 6 apple peeled, cored, and sliced, medium, baking variety
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
For the Batter:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk whole
  • 1/2 cup butter melted, unsalted
To serve:
  • vanilla ice cream optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and vanilla extract until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and melted butter until just combined.
  4. Spoon the batter over the apple mixture, spreading it gently to cover.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (optional).
