Apple Turnovers

Ingredients

  • 2 heets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 cups canned apple pie filling
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • coarse sugar for topping
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out 2 sheets of puff pastry, into a 12-inch square. Cut into 4 equal squares with a sharp knife.
  3. Add about ¼ cup of the 2 cups canned apple pie filling to the center of each square.
  4. Mix 1 whole egg and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl to make the egg wash. Brush the edges of the square lightly with the egg wash and fold over the pastry, matching corner to corner to form a triangle. Crimp the edges together tightly with the tines of a fork.
  5. Place the turnovers on the parchment-lined baking sheets and brush the tops with egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  6. Bake for 20-23 minutes or until the pastry is a deep golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Whisk together ⅔ cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk and drizzle over the top of the cooled pastries.
