Asian Zing Sauce Recipe (Great for Chicken Wings)

Asian Zing Sauce is a tangy, sweet, and spicy sauce combining soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, toasted sesame oil, garlic, chili flakes, and ginger with a thickened texture from cornstarch. The sauce simmers until glossy and slightly thickened, making it ideal for coating chicken wings or as a flavorful dip. Its balance of heat and sweetness can be adjusted to suit personal taste preference.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce light/regular
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil toasted
  • 2 garlic minced, cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes or more
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, brown sugar, chili flakes, minced garlic, ginger powder, cornstarch, and water well until there are no lumps.
  2. Pour the mixture into the pan and bring the mixture to a boil by constantly whisking over low and simmer flame until the sauce thickens and reaches the desired consistency.
  3. Remove the sauce from the heat and allow to cool before storing.

Notes

  • Adjust chili flakes to increase or decrease heat according to preference.
  • Add more brown sugar for a sweeter, less spicy sauce.
  • If the sauce thickens too much, thin with water to desired consistency.
  • Ensure cornstarch is fully dissolved before simmering to prevent lumps; strain if necessary.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings toward the end of cooking to balance flavors perfectly.
  • Roasting garlic before adding it can enhance the sauce's depth.
  • Marinate proteins in sauce for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for stronger flavor infusion.
  • Reheat sauce on low heat with stirring to avoid burning and preserve texture.
