Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (50 grams) old fashioned oats
  • 4 cups (950 milliliters) milk
  • 1 cup (237 milliliters) water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
Topping:
  • ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, milk, and water over medium heat. Cook, stirring often- especially the bottom and sides, for 15 minutes.
  2. Stir in the cinnamon stick, sugar, ground cloves, and salt. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for another 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Stir in the vanilla extract and transfer to a covered container. Refrigerate until well chilled, at least 3 hours to overnight.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and transfer the chilled drink to the blender. Puree until smooth. If too thick, add a little more water or milk.
  5. Serve chilled with a pinch of ground cinnamon sprinkled over the top.
