Ingredients

  • 6 medium Jalapeno peppers
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 lices Bacon
  • 2 tablespoons honey optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice jalapenos in half lengthwise. Carefully scrape out the seeds and membranes with a spoon and discard. See note.
  3. Add the cream cheese, cheddar, garlic powder,  onion powder, and salt  to a small bowl and stir well to combine.
  4. Spoon the cheese evenly between the jalapenos.
  5. Cut the bacon slices in half and wrap each jalapeno with a half slice of bacon.
  6. Arrange the jalapeno poppers on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until bacon is as crispy as you’d like. To speed along the crisping of the bacon, you can also turn the broiler on and keep a close eye on things. The bacon will crisp up quickly.
  7. Once bacon is crisp, brush the bacon with honey and place under the broiler for 1 minute to caramelize a bit. Keep a close eye on the honey as it will burn quickly.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • When working with jalapenos, it's always best to wear gloves so the oils from the peppers do not burn your skin. If you don't have gloves, wash your hands well immediately after handling the peppers.

  • The honey is optional, but we love the sweet paired with the heat. It’s a great combo and worth trying!

  • Swap the cheese filling for our homemade pimento cheese if you like!
  • This recipe was originally published back in 2017 and the filling was store bought mac and cheese. We've updated it with a more traditional cheese filling. The mac and cheese is delicious though, if you want to get creative!
