Baked Apples Recipe
Baked apples are the perfect treat for fall. In this recipe, apples are filled with a delicious oatmeal, walnut and raisin filling then baked to perfection. Serve with a dollop of yogurt and a drizzle of honey.
Ingredients
- 6 Honecrisp apple
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp raisins
- 2 tbsp walnuts chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Whole Baked Apples
- Using a paring knife, cut around the stem and remove it. Then using a small spoon, scoop out the insides. Be careful to avoid damaging the apple and make sure the bottom is intact.
- Mix the olive oil, honey, oats, cinnamon, salt, raisins and walnuts in a bowl. Using a small spoon, stuff the apples with this filling.
- Place the apples in an oven-safe dish and add 3/4 cup of water. Bake for 45to 55 minutes. The apples are ready if you can insert a knife easily into them. They should still keep their shape and not be mushy.
Sliced Baked Apples
- Peel and slice the apples. Place them in an 8x8 baking dish.
- Add the olive oil, honey, oats, cinnamon, salt, raisins and walnuts to the apples and combine well using a spoon.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the apples are tender.
Notes
- You can use a variety of apples including Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Gala or Pink Lady.
- If desired, leave out the oats and add 1/2 cup walnuts.
- Serve baked apples with ice cream, whipped cream or Greek yogurt with some additional honey.
