Baked Camembert Cheese

This impressive appetizer recipe that's easy to make with only 4 ingredients! Creamy, rich, and flavorful Camembert is quickly oven baked and topped warm with a bold sweet chili sauce and sautéed shallots.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounce wheel of camembert cheese
  • ¼ cup Asian Sweet Chili Sauce
  • 2 shallots peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Optional garnishes: butter crackers grapes, sliced baguettes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Open the Camembert cheese box and set aside. Remove all plastic or foil wrapping from the cheese wheel. Place the cheese wheel back in the wooden box. Carefully cut along the top rim of the cheese to create a lid. Do not pull off the top.
  3. Place the cheese wheel on a rimmed baking sheet. Once the oven is hot, bake for 15 minutes to soften the cheese. (Sometimes the rim wooden box will pop open under heat. In this case, place the open box back into the lid to hold it together once it comes out of the oven.)
  4. While the Camembert is in the oven, place a small skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sesame oil and shallots. Sauté for 8 to 10 minutes to soften and caramelize. It’s OK if the shallots turn dark, just be sure to keep the temperature low so they don’t taste burnt.
  5. Once the Camembert is out of the oven, carefully move it to a serving platter.
  6. Remove the lid on top of the cheese. Swirl the sweet chili sauce over the top of the Camembert. Then place the caramelized shallots over the top of the cheese wheel.
  7. Arrange crackers, baguette slices, and grapes around the cheese and serve warm.

Notes

  • We love the intensity of Camembert. However, you can make the same recipe using Brie cheese.
