Baked Camembert With Honey And Thyme
Baked Camembert With Honey And Thyme presents warm, creamy Camembert cheese scored and drizzled with honey and sprinkled with thyme before baking. The recipe includes optional smashed garlic and finishing salt with black pepper for seasoning. Served warm from its wooden box, the cheese softens to a luscious texture ideal for dipping crusty bread and fresh fruit slices. Additional toppings like chopped pecans add texture contrast.
Ingredients
- 250 grams Camembert cheese 9 oz) packed in wooden box
- 1 tablespoon honey Acacia (you may wish to add more)
- a pinch thyme or a sprig of fresh, dried
- 1 clove garlic smashed (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon salt Kosher/Maldon, sea salt
- black pepper freshly ground
To serve
- bread slices, warm, crusty
- apple or pear slices or figs
- pecans chopped, roasted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200℃/180℃ Fan/350℉.
- Remove the cheese from the box and take off the plastic wrapping. Use a sharp knife to score the top of the cheese in a criss cross pattern.
- Drizzle honey over the top and sprinkle with the thyme. You could add a small smashed clove of garlic over the cheese at this point. Put the cheese back in the box and place on a small baking tray on the middle shelf and bake for 15 minutes.
- Take the cheese out of the oven and remove the lid. Season the cheese with a little finishing salt (to taste) and some freshly ground black pepper. Serve with a sliced baguette, apple or pear slices, figs, or breadsticks and some chopped pecans (optional).
Notes
- Choose Camembert packed in a wooden box and remove all plastic wrapping before baking.
- Score the top rind in a crisscross pattern to help flavor penetration and soften textures during baking.
- Drizzle honey such as Acacia or Chestnut and sprinkle thyme; use one fresh sprig or a pinch of dried thyme, which is stronger.
- Optionally add a smashed garlic clove on top for more aroma.
- Bake cheese in its box placed on a baking tray to catch any drips and ease handling.
- Alternatively, for barbecue grilling, wrap cheese in parchment paper and foil and grill away from direct heat for about 10 minutes.
- Serve warm with crusty bread, fresh fruit slices, figs, and optionally chopped pecans or walnuts for texture.
- Wrap leftovers in wax or plastic wrap, refrigerate, and use within a couple of days; reheat before serving.
