Easy Baklava recipe for the classic Greek dessert with layers of buttery phyllo dough, cinnamon walnut baklava filling, and sweet syrup.

Ingredients

Syrup:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
To Finish:
  • 3 cups walnuts
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pound phyllo dough
  • 1 1/2 cups butter melted, unsalted

Instructions

Syrup:
    Cup of Yum
  1. In a pot on medium heat add the sugar, water, and lemon juice, and bring to a simmer.
  2. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced by half, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes./timer].
To Assemble and Finish:
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and spray a 9x13 baking pan with baking spray.
  2. To a food processor, combine the walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon and pulse until the walnuts are really small pieces.
  3. Add the first sheet of phyllo dough and brush with melted butter.
  4. Repeat for a total 10 times, then add 1/2 of the walnuts.
  5. Repeat with 6 more layers of phyllo dough brushed with butter.
  6. Top with remaining walnut mixture.
  7. Repeat with 10 more layers of phyllo dough brushed with butter.
  8. Brush the tops of the dough with more butter, then use a knife to cut the dough into a diamond pattern, but cut into it
  9. Bake for 75 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Immediately pour over the syrup, then let cool completely.
