Ingredients

  • 72 cookies Oreos divided
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 24 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips about 3 cups, or chocolate candy melts
  • 1 tablespoons coconut oil optional, see notes
  • Candy eyes
  • mini chocolate chips optional ears

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place 36 Oreo cookies in food processor and mix until cookies turn into fine crumbs. See notes if you don’t have a food processor.
  3. Add cream cheese to the cookie crumbs. Mix with a silicone spatula until a dough forms. Do not mix the mixture in the food processor as the cream cheese mixture can become too liquidy.
  4. Roll the dough into balls, about one tablespoon per truffle. Place truffles on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet so they are not touching. Freeze the truffles for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Slice the remaining Oreos in half across the cookie's circle to make two bat wings using a large serrated bread knife or a very sharp knife.
  6. Add the chocolate and coconut oil (optional) to a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for a minute at half power, then stir. Continue heating the chocolate in thirty-second increments until it forms a smooth chocolate sauce.
  7. Remove half of the truffles from the freezer. Place half of the truffle balls into chocolate one at a time to coat with a fork to let excess chocolate drip off. Place each piece on parchment paper so they are not touching each other and immediately press the Oreo wings into the truffle. Place the tray in the freezer when you finish the pan. Repeat with the second half of the truffles.
  8. Place all truffles in the freezer for at least 15 minutes or until the chocolate sets. the wings will then hold more firmly.
  9. Add candy eyes with a dab of melted chocolate as glue to the truffles once set. Use extra melted chocolate to secure any wings that are not quite secure. Placing the truffles back in the freezer can help to secure the wings and eyes more firmly. Then enjoy!

  • Making Cookie Crumbs Without a Food Processor

If you don’t have a food processor, you can place the cookies in a gallon size strong zip-top bag. Use a rolling pin or even a full canned good to crush the cookies into crumbs inside the bag. After the cookies have become crumbs, you can mix in the rest of the ingredients with the cookie crumbs with an electric mixer. If you don’t have an electric mixer you can mix them together by hand but it may take a little longer and the cream cheese needs to be well softened.

  • Tips For Decorating The Truffles With Candy Melts

Sometimes by the time you are decorating the truffles with the candy melt chocolate, the chocolate begins to harden. Candy melts can be placed back in the microwave and heated at half power in increments just like when you first melted the chocolate. Be careful not to get any water or other liquid in the candy melts chocolate as this will cause the chocolate to seize. (become grainy and hard.) A little extra oil can be used to thin the chocolate further if needed.
