Beer Bread

This simple beer bread uses the natural yeast in beer to make a delicious warm, dense bread that can be slathered in butter and enjoyed as the perfect side for soups and more!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • one ounce beer bottle
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted, salted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a standard 9x5 inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the ingredients, then pour the beer in.
  4. Mix until the dough just comes together, it should still be a little lumpy.
  5. Turn out into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top.
  6. Brush the top with the melted butter.
  7. Place the loaf pan on a baking sheet, then place into the oven.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, until golden brown on top and a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then turn out onto a baking rack to cool.
  10. Slice and serve right away, this doesn't keep well and should be eaten the same day it's made for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • This really only works with alcoholized beer that has yeast in it!
