Best Chicken Shawarma Recipe

Ingredients

For the Shawarma
  • 6 chicken thighs boneless, skinless
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion sliced
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
For Serving
  • 6 pita pockets
  • Your favorite vegetable or salad
  • Your favorite sauce

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the cumin, coriander, garlic powder, paprika, turmeric, and cloves in a small mixing bowl. Set aside.
  2. Pat the chicken dry and season with salt and pepper on both sides.
  3. Slice the chicken into small bite-sized pieces, then add to a large bowl.
  4. Add the shawarma seasoning and toss to coat.
  5. Add the onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. Toss everything to coat.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Remove the chicken from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 425℉.
  9. Place the marinated chicken and onions onto a large baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for about 30 minutes or until cooked through.
  10. To serve, open pita pockets and spread with your favorite sauce. Add the chicken shawarma and vegetables. Serve and enjoy!
