Best Oven Baked BBQ Chicken

This Oven Baked BBQ Chicken is easy to make and includes a homemade no-cook barbecue sauce. It's finger licking good!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 pounds chicken pieces skin on, bone-in, various cuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet or 9x13 pan.
  2. In a blender combine tomato sauce, molasses, worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, salt, cajun seasoning, paprika, and garlic.
  3. Puree until smooth.
  4. Transfer half of the sauce into a separate bowl and reserve for later. Brush remaining sauce onto chicken pieces.
  5. Place chicken pieces into prepared pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, flip all pieces and baste with reserved sauce. Continue baking for another 20 minutes, or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
  6. Switch oven to broiler setting and broil, 2 to 3 minutes until sauce caramelizes. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Be careful about cross contamination with the barbecue sauce. If you touch your chicken with a brush or spoon and then stick that utensil back into the bowl, the sauce is now contaminated. This means that the sauce cannot be eaten unless it has been cooked.
