Black Forest Cherry Cake

Black Forest Cherry Cake is one of the easiest and most delicious cakes you will ever make. All you need to make the cake is just three ingredients!

Ingredients

Cake Ingredients:
  • 15 oz chocolate cake mix
  • 21 oz cherry pie filling 1 can
  • 3 egg room temp
Frosting Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter softened, unsalted, sweet cream
  • 1 cup cocoa powder Hershey's brand
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
  • 1 teaspoon chocolate extract

Instructions

Cake Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray a 9x13" pan with non-stick baking spray.
  3. In a large bowl add the cake mix with cherries and eggs.
  4. Whisk together until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into your baking pan.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean or it springs back when you press the middle.
  7. If you need to bake more, bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Let cake cool completely.
Frosting Directions:
  1. Using a standing mixer, beat the butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, chocolate and vanilla extract until combined and smooth on medium speed until creamy.
  2. If the frosting is to thin, mix in 1/4 C more of powdered sugar. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl!
  3. Spoon frosting onto cooled cake and spread frosting onto the cake, making sure to smooth it out with an angled spatula.
  4. Garnish with chocolate shavings and cherries.
  5. Enjoy!
