Black Sesame Bostock
Black Sesame Bostock features thick-cut bread transformed with a black sesame frangipane spread. The bread absorbs simple syrup before being topped with a creamy mixture of butter, sugar, almond flour, black sesame powder, egg, and extracts. Baked until lightly golden and finished with flaked almonds and powdered sugar, these bostocks offer a crisp, buttery texture with a nutty sesame flavor. It’s a distinct take on a classic French almond toast, suitable for teatime or a special breakfast treat.
Ingredients
- 4 lices bread thick-cut
- ¼ C simple syrup
Black sesame frangipane:
- 30 g butter unsalted
- 40 g granulated sugar
- 24 g almond flour
- 32 g black sesame powder
- 1 egg large
- 6 g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt sea salt
Garnish:
- 4 teaspoon almonds flaked
- 2 teaspoon powdered sugar
Instructions
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Place the slices of bread onto the baking tray. Set aside.
Black sesame frangipane:
- In a bowl, combine butter and sugar with a fork.
- Mix in almond flour, black sesame powder, egg and flour.
- Stir in vanilla extract, almond extract and salt.
Assemble:
- Lightly brush simple syrup onto each slice of bread.
- Divide the frangipane mixture evenly onto the slices of bread.
- Top with flaked almonds.
- Bake at 375°F/191°C for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden in color.
- Remove from oven and let cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
