Blood Orange Margarita

This blood orange margarita recipe is a combination of freshly squeezed orange juice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice and grenadine. A unique and delicious cocktail option that's perfect for the winter months.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sanding sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3½ ounces blood orange juice
  • 1½ ounces tequila blanco
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • 1½ ounces grenadine
  • mint sprigs and blood orange slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the sugar and salt on a small plate and mix them together.
  2. Dip the rim of a glass in a small bowl of water. Place the wet rim in the salt and sugar mixture.
  3. Turn the glass upright.
  4. Add ice to a cocktail shaker.
  5. Pour in the blood orange juice, tequila and triple sec into the shaker.
  6. Next, pour the lime juice and grenadine into the shaker.
  7. Shake to combine. Add ice to the prepared glass, then strain the drink into the glass. Garnish with blood orange slices and mint, then serve.

Notes

  • This recipe makes one drink. You can easily scale the quantities up by changing the number of of servings on the recipe card.
  •  I use grenadine because it helps to sweeten the drink, and adds extra flavor and color. If you don't want to use grenadine, you can use an equal amount of simple syrup.
  • If you don't have a cocktail shaker at home, you can shake your ingredients in a mason jar, or just use a spoon to stir everything together.
