Boiled Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 garlic clove crushed
  • 2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 ½ pounds medium shell-on shrimp

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot half up with water. Add salt, lemon, black peppercorns, and bay leaves. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the shrimp to the boiling water. Cook just until the shrimp turn pink and opaque and their tails curl, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Immediately drain the shrimp in a colander and plunge them into a bowl of ice water to stop cooking. Once cooled, drain well.
  4. The shrimp are now ready to peel, eat, or use in other recipes. They can be served warm with drawn butter or chilled with cocktail sauce.
