Bread Machine Bread

This bread machine bread recipe uses very hot water, egg, cold butter, sugar, salt, flour, and quick-rise yeast to produce a classic white loaf. The dough is mixed and kneaded in a bread machine, then baked in a bread pan in a conventional oven for a golden crust and soft interior. The resulting bread is versatile for sandwiches, toasting, or serving alongside meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water (very hot)
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter (cold- not softened)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon quick-rise yeast

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Place hot water, egg, butter, sugar, and salt in bread machine.
  2. Add 3 cups flour. Make a small well in the flour and add yeast.
  3. Set bread machine to "dough" for 90 minutes (1 hour 30 minutes) and start.
  4. When dough is finished. Pour directly into a greased bread pan. If needed, gently turn the bread or tuck in the edges so the top is smooth (it's ok if it is sticky).
  5. Place bread in COLD oven and set oven to 350 degrees. Set timer for 30 minutes.
  6. When finished baking, remove from oven and carefully remove bread from the pan.
  7. Place on a baking rack to cool and brush the top with butter. Place a towel over the bread or place in a plastic Ziplock bag to keep from drying out.
  8. Serve immediately or place in a plastic Ziplock bag to keep from drying out.
If Making Rolls:
  1. Remove dough from bread machine and place on a floured surface.
  2. Knead in a little flour if dough is too sticky to handle.
  3. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Fold and pinch into dough balls and place in a greased 9x13 glass baking dish.
  4. Place in a COLD oven and set to 350 degrees. Set timer for 25 minutes.
  5. Remove rolls from oven and brush with butter.

Notes

  • This bread is versatile and pairs well with jams, honey, soups, or salads for various meals.
  • After baking, cool on a rack and cover with a towel or plastic bag to retain moisture and freshness.
  • To make rolls instead of a loaf, knead the dough on a floured surface, divide into 12 pieces, and shape before baking.
