Buttermilk French Toast

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ⅓ cup buttermilk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 12 slices bread sandwich, texas toast, etc.
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, combine eggs, brown sugar, nutmeg, milk, vanilla and orange zest.
  2. Mix well until the eggs are beaten.
  3. Heat skillet on low and let it come to temperature.
  4. Place pieces of bread in egg mixture, coating both sides.
  5. If the bread is thick and stale, let it sit for up to 7 minutes per side, but don't let it get soggy. Soggy bread won't cook well.
  6. Butter skillet and cook on medium heat until golden brown on both sides and cooked through (165ºF).
