Candied Yams

On the table in under 30 minutes, these sweet and savory candied yams are an old-fashioned classic side dish perfect for holidays!

Ingredients

  • 5-6 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into rounds (about ⅜ inch thick)
  • 5-6 tablespoons butter
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup water
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Add cubed sweet potatoes, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and water to a large skillet and bring to a boil.
  2. Turn heat down to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes without stirring.
  3. Cook on low for an additional 4-6 minutes, stirring until potatoes are well coated. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

  • Storage. Place cooled leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw, if needed, and reheat in the microwave or in a saucepan. Add a bit of butter and cook until heated through.
