Chaat Masala Recipe
Mix up your very own chaat masala powder for a bright, tangy and dynamic spice mix that takes snack time to a whole new level.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp cumin seeds jeera
- 1 tbsp black peppercorns kali mirch
- 1 tbsp coriander seeds dhaniya
- 6 clove lavang, whole
- 2 Kashmiri dried chiles
- 1/4 tsp ajwain seeds carom
- 3 tbsp mango powder amchur
- 1 tbsp dried mint pudina
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground ginger saunth
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida powder hing
Instructions
- Place first 6 ingredients in a dry skillet and gently toast spices until slightly fragrant. Remove from heat and grind in a spice grinder (or cleaned coffee bean grinder).
- Add remaining ingredients and pulse until a fine powder. Cool and store in a airtight container.
- This salty, tart and spicy seasoning is used as an all-purpose spice for snack foods, fruit, vegetables and whatever you like (I love it over popcorn, too).
Notes
- This makes about 3/4 cup, serving size 1 teaspoon.
