Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour1 cup milk or water
  • 4 tablespoons butter chilled cut into cubes
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 410°F (210°C), and grease or line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt and stir together.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture looks like a coarse meal.
  4. Add the grated cheese and milk and stir just until the biscuit dough comes together.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured working surface and knead 5-6 times.
  6. Light dust a rolling pin, then roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  7. Using a 2-inch round cutter, cut out as many biscuits as possible.
  8. Place biscuits on greased or lined baking pan.
  9. Rework the scrap dough, rolling and cutting as above until all dough is used.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before serving.
