Chocolate Hummus
Don’t cringle with the idea of chocolate hummus. Trust me, this is the best dessert hummus aka dessert dip you’ll make. Though it’s called “chocolate” hummus it’s much healthier than you imagine. This dessert hummus is refined sugar free, diary-free and gluten-free.

Ingredients
- 1 can chickpeas drained and rinsed
- 3 ½ tablespoon dutch cocoa powder
- ⅓ cup almond butter or peanut butter
- ½ cup maple syrup or honey or coconut sugar
- 2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- If making your own chickpeas, check how to cook chickpeas post for guidance.
- If using canned chickpeas, drain chickpeas and rinse it well before you use.
- You’ll need a powerful blender to make dessert hummus. I experimented with both food processor and a blender. I found blender works better for me in terms of making my chocolate hummus smooth.
- Food processor will work too, but I found it results in bit grainy hummus even after blending it for 25 minutes! Maybe my food processor isn’t powerful enough or whatever the reason.
- If you have VITAMIX, without any thought just use that to make brownie batter hummus.
- Here’s how you make dessert hummus-
- Rinse canned chickpeas and drain it completely.
- Add chickpeas, cocoa powder, almond butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, salt into blender or food processor.
- Blend.
- It will be hard to blend chocolate hummus without any liquid. Add 2 to 3 tablespoon (add more as needed) almond milk or water to help blend into smooth hummus.
- Blend until smooth.
- Check out smooth my chocolate hummus is in blender compared to using my food processor.
- Serve it with fruits, cracker for dipping. Or spread it on toast, pancakes, waffle and enjoy!
