Chokladboll

Chokladboll, plural chokladbollar, also called havreboll, kokosboll, and negerboll, is a chocolate and coconut dumpling native to Sweden, similar to the Israeli kadur shokolad (כדור שוקולד), Danish romkugle, and the Brazilian brigadeiro.

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS (for 25 chokladbollar)
  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons strong coffee (cold)
  • grated coconut

Instructions

  1. Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Add the softened butter and mix with the fingertips to obtain a crumbly dough.
  3. Add the coffee and mix so that the dough comes together.
  4. Divide the dough into 25 pieces and roll them up.
  5. Roll each ball in the grated coconut.

Notes

  • NOTES This is the basic traditional recipe for chokladbollar. Depending on taste, here are a few other popular options: Flavor the dough with a few drops of peppermint oil and roll each ball in polenta. Stir almond powder into the dough and roll each ball in almond powder for a more bitter taste. Add liqueur to the dough: orange liqueur, raspberry liqueur or coconut liqueur. Roast the coconut in which the chokladbollar are rolled. Add whiskey and/or licorice bits to the batter.
