Christmas Pomegranate Margarita

The Christmas Pomegranate Margarita combines hibiscus pomegranate syrup, silver tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur for a festive cocktail with a fruity tartness and floral undertones. Ingredients

Hibiscus Pomegranate Syrup (or replace with store-bought Grenadine)
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice or 1 cup water, 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup cane sugar regular white sugar may be used too
  • ¾ cup dried hibiscus flowers or replace with 4-6 Tazo Passion Tea Bags

  • 1 ½ - 2 ounces hibiscus pomegranate syrup start with 1 ½ adding more if sweeter drink desired
  • 1 ½ - 2 ounces tequila use 100% Agave Tequila, silver 
  • ½ - 1 medium lime juiced, more will be more sour
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur such as Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or triple sec
Optional Garnish Ideas
  • 1 prig rosemary
  • 3-4 cranberries Pierced onto a cocktail stick, sugared
  • hibiscus flowers edible flowers; fresh slice of orange

Instructions

Hibiscus Pomegranate Syrup
    Cup of Yum
  1. In a small saucepan, place the sugar, juice and hibiscus flowers. Mix and place on medium-low heat stirring until it boils, about 15 minutes.
  2. Turn off the heat, strain or remove hibiscus petals with a slotted spoon or through mesh strainer and set aside. Let it cool to room temperature before using.
  3. Make up to a week ahead of time, stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
Christmas Margarita Recipe (Hibiscus Pomegranate Margarita)
  1. In a cocktail shaker, add a couple pieces of ice (not full, just to add some chill and froth. Pour over hibiscus pomegranate simple syrup, tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Shake 10-15 vigorous shakes.
  2. Strain into an ice filled coupe glass, margarita glass or old fashioned glass and garnish with extra pomegranate, hibiscus flowers, rosemary, cranberries or other edible flowers.

Notes

  • Prepare hibiscus pomegranate syrup up to a week in advance; keep refrigerated in an airtight container.
  • Before serving, stir the mixed margarita well and provide ice for guests to adjust chill as desired.
  • To sugar-rim glasses, moisten rim with orange juice or syrup for best adhesion, then dip into sugar or edible glitter.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit tequila and orange liqueur; substitute with ginger beer and orange juice respectively.
  • Adjust lime juice amount when scaling recipe to maintain balanced sourness.
  • Variations include replacing syrup with grenadine, vodka replacing tequila, or blending with ice for a frozen cocktail.
