Ingredients

CHRISTMAS SUGAR COOKIES
  • 4 cups of flour.
  • 2 cups of sugar.
  • 1 cup of shortening or use butter.
  • 1 cup of buttermilk.
  • 2 large eggs.
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla.
  • ½ teaspoon of salt.
ICING FOR DECORATING
  • 3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 2 teaspoon corn syrup light
  • 4 1/2 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Cream together the sugar and the shortening.
  2. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla, then beat thoroughly.
  3. In a separate bowl combine all of the remaining ingredients; then add to the shortening mixture.
  4. Roll out gently on a floured surface; then cut using floured cookie cutters.
  5. Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 10 minutes.
  6. In the meantime prepare the icing. Add all the ingredients into a bowl and whisk together
  7. If the icing is too thick, add a little more water and whisk again.
  8. Divide the icing into separate bowls and add a few drops of your preferred color and mix to combine.
  9. Keep the icing covered with cling wrap until ready to use.
  10. Once the cookies are baked, remove them from the oven and allow them to completely cool down.
  11. Decorate with icing. The icing will take a few hours to set hard.
