Ingredients

  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate at least 70%, 113 grams
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk divided, 355 milliliters
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Whipped Cream:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream 118 milliliters
  • 1/2 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine chocolate and 1/2 cup (118 milliliters) of the milk over low heat. Stir often until melted.
  2. Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, slowly whisk in remaining 1 cup (237 milliliters) milk.
  3. Remove about 2 tablespoons to a small bowl. Whisk the cornstarch into the small amount of liquid until dissolved. Pour into the saucepan with the sugar. Stir constantly until the chocolate thickens.
To make the whipped cream:
  1. Pour cream into a medium bowl. Add orange zest and beat until stiff peaks form.
  2. Transfer the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream. Serve immediately.
