Classic Easy Oyster Vinaigrette Recipe (Mignonette)
This Classic Easy Oyster Vinaigrette, also known as mignonette sauce, blends finely minced shallots with red wine vinegar, a touch of sugar, salt, and ground black pepper. The sauce is sharp and tangy with a hint of sweetness that complements raw oysters by enhancing their natural briny flavor. It is prepared simply by mixing and resting the ingredients, allowing the flavors to meld for a balanced, piquant condiment.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup shallot
- ½ cup red wine vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper finely ground
- ½ teaspoon sugar or honey
- ½ teaspoon salt to taste
Instructions
- Finely chop the shallots. You want them to be minced finely to blend well with the sauce.
- In a small bowl, combine the chopped shallots, wine vinegar, salt, cracked black pepper, and sugar.
- Stir the ingredients together until well mixed.
- Adjust salt, pepper and sugar to taste if you like.
- Let the mignonette sauce sit, covered in the fridge, for at least 30 minutes for optimal flavor development. It can be made up to 2 days ahead if you like. Give the oyster vinaigrette a little stir before serving
Notes
- Keep leftover vinaigrette refrigerated in a sealed container for up to one week.
