Ingredients

  • 3 egg
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup margarine melted
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 1 pie shell unbaked

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, beat together eggs.
  3. Add sugar and mix well.
  4. Add corn syrup, salt, vanilla, and margarine. Mix until well combined.
  5. Place pecans and chocolate chips in the pie shell. 
  6. Slowly pour pecan pie filling into the pie shell. The pecans will rise up to the top when baking.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. 

Notes

  • If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil strips halfway through baking to prevent burning.
  • The center should have a slight jiggle like gelatin when done; it will firm up as it cools.
  • Lightly toast pecans beforehand to enhance their flavor.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips work well, though dark or milk chocolate chips can be used to adjust sweetness.
  • Using room temperature eggs promotes smooth incorporation in the filling.
