Creamy Garlic Parmesan Orzo
It's so easy to make this Creamy Garlic Parmesan Orzo in one pot and 20 minutes! This orzo pasta recipe can be served as a side dish, or turned into a main dish with the simple addition of roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, shrimp, or Italian sausage.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic finely minced
- 1 ½ cups orzo pasta dry
- 2 ½ cups chicken broth
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese shredded
- 2 tablespoons parsley fresh
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet on the stove over medium-high heat.
- Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the orzo pasta, toss to coat in the butter and toast for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chicken broth, salt and pepper and bring the liquid to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring often, for 15 minutes, or until most of the liquid is absorbed and the pasta is cooked to your preference.
- Stir in the heavy cream, parmesan cheese and parsley. Serve immediately.
Notes
- To make this recipe gluten free, use gluten-free orzo.
- To make this recipe vegetarian, use vegetable broth, instead of chicken broth.
- Store leftover garlic parmesan orzo in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
- I like to reheat it in the microwave for 2 minutes, but you could also reheat it in a pot on the stove over medium heat. If it appears that the orzo is drying out, add 1-2 tablespoons broth or water.
