Ingredients
- 3 cups (12 ounces) penne noodles cooked according to package directions
- 1 pound ground Italian sausage hot or mild
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian blend herb seasoning or Herbs de Provence
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 - 1 ½ teaspoons salt to taste
- cracked black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Drizzle oil into a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and brown for 5-8 minutes, breaking apart into small pieces as it cooks.
- Stir in marinara sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in heavy cream. Stir in cooked penne. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Stir in cooked penne. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with fresh herbs like basil or thyme if desired and serve.

Notes
- Heavy cream swap: easily sub out the heavy cream for a fat free half and half or other milk. Thicken it up with a simple corn starch slurry of 1/4 cup water + 1 T corn starch whisked til dissolved. Stir into bubbling pasta sauce til thickened.
- Expert tip: stir in 1 cup of fresh baby spinach!
- Serving suggestion: garlic bread and tossed salad.
- Garnish it: top it off with fresh basil, grated parmesan cheese, and cracked black pepper.
