Crispy Baked Barbecue Tofu

This easy recipe is full of flavor and texture and great for barbecues or as a quick and simple weeknight main dish.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounce package of extra-firm tofu
  • 1 ½ cups barbeque sauce here's the link to our recipe or use your favorite store-bought brand.
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs use gluten-free if desired

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 385°F (196˚C)
  2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper
  3. Press the tofu in a tofu press or place the tofu on a plate lined with 3 sheets of paper towel, and then put two sheets of paper towel on top of the tofu. Place a heavy dish or pan on the tofu and let sit for 30 minutes. This will remove the excess water.
  4. Make our easy homemade BBQ sauce or use your favorite store-bought brand.
  5. In a medium size bowl combine the 1 ½ cups of barbeque sauce and the ½ cup of breadcrumbs.
  6. Cut the tofu in half, lengthwise, then slice both halves in half again so you have four steaks. You can also cube them if you want.
  7. Spread a thick layer of the BBQ mixture on all sides of the tofu and place on the parchment lined baking pan. Bake for approximately 12 minutes per side, or until the sauce is thick and sticky and the breadcrumbs are crispy.
  8. Put the patties on a bun, wrap it in lettuce, or eat it as a main, like you would any piece of protein.
