Crispy Tofu Sisig

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. extra firm tofu sliced into small cubes
  • 5 pieces Thai chili chopped
  • 2 long green pepper chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion chopped
  • 10 tablespoons vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups cooking oil
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

  1. Heat oil in a cooking pot.
  2. Once the oil gets hot, deep-fry the cubed tofu until it turns crispy. Remove from the pot using a kitchen strainer. Put in a metal colander or into a plate lined with paper towel. Set aside.
  3. Combine vegetable broth, soy sauce, onion powder, and cornstarch in a bowl. Stir until all the ingredients are well blended. Set aside.
  4. Scoop 3 tablespoons of oil from the pot where the tofu were fried. Pour it in a clean pan. Heat the pan on a stove top.
  5. Saute onion, long green peppers, and chili.
  6. Add the crispy fried tofu. Stir-fry for 1 minute.
  7. Pour the bowl with broth mixture into the pan. Toss the ingredients until coated with the mixture.
  8. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Transfer to a serving plate. Serve with a dipping sauce composed of say sauce, calamansi, and crushed chili peppers.
  10. Share and enjoy!
