Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour plus extra flour for dusting work surface
  • ¾ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup milk (whole or skim)
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract or almond extract
  • ½ cup salted butter at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ cup guava paste
  • 1 cup powdered white sugar

Instructions

1. Preheating oven

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F [150°C].
2. Mixing dry ingredients
  1. Mix flour and baking powder. Set aside
3. Mixing liquids
  1. Combine milk and vanilla extract. Set aside.
4. Combining
  1. In a separate bowl beat butter and brown sugar until the butter has turned a very light yellow. Add milk and flour alternating between the two until they are well mixed.
5. Roll out
  1. Using a rolling pin extend the dough on a clean surface which you had previously dusted with flour until it is thin and even. Cut 4" x 4" [10 cm x 10cm] squares of dough. Place a teaspoon of guava paste in one end and roll shut sealing the ends.
6. Bake
  1. Bake for 20 minutes.
7. Serve
  1. Remove from the oven and cover the rolls with the caster sugar while still hot. Cool to room temperature before serving.Store in a sealed container for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Deditos de novia are perfect with guava jam, but you can use another kind of jam.
