Ingredients

  • 1 Single Pie Crust
  • 2 ½ pounds apple about 6 apples, Granny Smith variety
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ cup raisins optional
Topping
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup butter cold

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a deep-dish pie plate with pie crust.
  2. Peel and core apples. Slice into ⅛" slices. Toss apple slices with sugar, flour, spices, and raisins if using. Place apple slices in prepared pastry.
Topping
  1. Mix flour, brown sugar, and white sugar in a bowl. Add butter and combine using a pastry cutter to break down the large pieces of butter.
  2. Work ingredients with hands until large crumbs have formed. If the mixture is powdery it needs to be mixed longer.
  3. Sprinkle the crumbs over the apples.
  4. Bake 50-60 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden.

Notes

  • Store leftover Dutch Apple Pie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the apple mixture to enhance flavor and prevent browning.
  • Ensure butter is cold when preparing the streusel topping for proper crumb texture.
  • If the topping appears too soft or powdery, mix longer until it holds together in large crumbs.
  • Chopped toasted walnuts can be added to the topping for extra texture and flavor.
