Easy Bamboo Shoots Recipe

If you’ve ordered a stir-fry at your favorite Asian restaurant, it may have included bamboo shoots as an ingredient. This recipe for bamboo shoots is incredibly easy to make and is ideal as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 can bamboo shoots
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic finely minced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the bamboo shoots with water.
  2. Cut them into thin, 2-inch long slices. Note that if the bamboo shoots have a bit of a metallic taste from the can, rinse them with hot water.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the chicken bouillon powder and water. Stir well and set aside.
  4. In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add the sesame oil and the minced garlic.
  5. Sauté for about 1 minute and add the sliced bamboo shoots. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes.
  6. Add the chicken stock mixture, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for about 10-15 minutes until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
