Easy Indian-style Yellow Rice (Turmeric Rice)
Flavoured with turmeric, cinnamon and cardamom, this Easy Indian-style Yellow Rice is a super quick ‘cheats’ version of a classic pilau rice. It takes less than 15 minutes to make, and needs no special equipment – meaning you can have this delicious ‘fakeaway’ pilau rice any time you fancy!
Ingredients
- 300 g basmati rice (I use Tilda)
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric ground
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cardamom pods gently bashed to open (I use the bottom of a knife handle)
- 2 cloves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 600 ml water boiling
Instructions
- Place the basmati rice in a medium-sized saucepan.
- Add the turmeric, cinnamon, bashed cardamom pods, cloves, and salt.
- Pour in the boiling water, turn the heat on high and bring back to the boil.
- Then cover with a lid and turn the heat right down. Continue cooking for 10 minutes or until cooked to your liking. (If all the water gets absorbed BEFORE the rice is cooked to your liking, add a splash more water and continue cooking.)
- Serve with your favourite curry or why not try this with my Easy Beef Mince Curry?
